One Love Manchester emotional highlights – Ariana Grande has since been made an honorary citizen of the city. It was a truly magnificent occasion with some spectacular performances.
The benefit concert held in the wake of the Manchester attack turned into a night of unity, healing and joy for 50,000 music fans. Up to £2 million was raised
The show was held to remember the victims of the suicide bombing at the Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena May 22.
Despite the circumstances, a celebratory atmosphere prevailed as Grande herself returned to the stage.
She told the crowd: “I want to thank you for coming together and being so loving and strong.”
Visibly moved at times, Grande performed with Miley Cyrus and the Black Eyed Peas. Other pop artists were Katy Perry, Coldplay, Robbie Williams, Liam Gallagher and Justin Bieber.
But one of the highlights of the gig was Ariana’s meeting the lead singer of the Parr’s Wood High School choir. She promised to sing with them after they raised funds by performing her hit song My Everything.
It was fantastic. Ariana hugged the 12-year-old soloist Natasha Seth and gave her comfort when she was overcome with emotion
And Ariana kept it simple. She chose to wear a One Love Manchester sweatshirt for the gig. And many of the fans also wore shirts bearing similar messages, or face paint saying “I heart MCR”, or #WeStandTogether stickers.
There were tears as the pop diva sang her final song for the night
