In April 2015, the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company, an underground safe deposit facility in London’s Hatton Garden area, was burgled by 4 elderly men. The total stolen may have a value of £200 million, the incident has been called the ‘largest burglary in English legal history.” Philip Holden

The world was shocked to discover a gang of ageing East End criminals ransacked 73 boxes of diamonds, gold and sapphires, at the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit in London’s jewellery quarter after using a drill to bore a hole into the vault wall.

It brought back memories of the East End crime of the fifties.  Gangs dominated the art of thieving.  No-one was afraid.  They were all daring and challenged the police.  The law was broken so many times and more often than not they got away with it.
