House of Commons LIVE – Theresa May Statement – a historic day

House of Commons Live – Theresa May Statement will inform Parliament of the formal application to leave the European Union

This is the day that Article 50 is triggered and the UK begins the process to leave the European Union. Theresa May signed the letter and sent it to Brussels.

It has been a long time coming.

The issue continues to be controversial.  Critics say the nation is still with the decision to leave the EU.  Arguments point out the economy could suffer as well as the workforce.

Freedom of movement is one of the biggest areas the Government will have to negotiate.

Theresa May will promise to “represent every person in the whole United Kingdom” during the negotiations – including EU nationals, whose status after Brexit has yet to be settled.

Public expected to be kept informed with each stage of the negotiations.

Next two years are going to be crucial for the UK and its independence.  Discussions will begin March 29. Prime Minister says the public will be kept informed.

EU negotiators warn they will be tough. It is the first time a departure has happened with the EU
