There was a minute’s silence at 9:30am in Whitehall. Members of Parliament also paid tribute with a minute’s silence. Statement by the Prime Minister, Theresa May was at 10:30am. She arrived at the House of Commons early.
She has condemned the incident as a “sick and depraved terrorist attack”. Mrs May will say again that such attacks are “doomed to failure”.
Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn extended his sympathies with the victims. He also paid tribute to the police and emergency service for their rapid response to the attack.
Lib Dem leader Tim Farron gave his reaction to the events of Wednesday. He said it had been an attack on British democracy.
Armed raids have been carried out in London, Birmingham and other parts of the country. Seven arrests have been made.
The attacker aimed to get inside the Houses of Parliament. This led to a lockdown. Members of Parliament were under tight security and not able to leave the building.
