Watch the dramatic latest trailer for Lady Macbeth – it is out in British cinemas April 28. It got rave reviews from film critics when it was shown at the British Film Festival last year. Many said it is a film worth waiting for.

In this adaptation of Nikolai Leskov’s novella Lady Macbeth of the Mtsenk, a 19th century young bride is sold into marriage to a middle-aged man.

Rural England, 1865, Katherine is stifled by her loveless marriage to a bitter man twice her age, whose family is cold and unforgiving.  When she embarks on a passionate affair with a young worker on her husband’s estate, a force is unleashed inside her, so powerful that she will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

While it is a brief look at the film it is a great taster to what is to come. There are dramatic scenes in this teaser but be warned the film is said to be an adults only watch. Violence and cruelty are on the agenda.

In the full film there is sex and nudity.  Don’t be late

Florence Pugh announces herself as a major talent to watch in William Oldroyd’s impressively tough-minded Victorian tragedy.  Variety

Just when you think you know this story, Oldroyd and Birch begin to show you that you don’t

This is an auspicious and striking debut that spells the start of a genuinely talented filmmaker

It is an uncompromising attempt to make that rare thing, a genuine British art film.
