Paralympics closing ceremony was spectacular.  Rio said farewell in style to the 2016 Games on Sunday September 18. Tokyo presented its invitation to join them in 2020.

The performance showcased Brazil’s passion for music as well as their desire to celebrate. There was a time when it was thought the stadia would not fill for health reasons.

The Maracana stadium was packed with spectators, personalities and sports fans.  Young British singer Callum Scott made a guest appearance in the final scenes.

There were tributes paid to the Paralympics Organisation and its athletes.  Singers, dancers and fireworks lit up the iconic stadium before tributes were paid to Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, who died on Saturday.  A minutes silence was held in his memory.

China led on the medals table with ParalympicsGB second:  64 gold, 39 silver, 44 bronze = total 147

Thank you Rio you were great!
