Ali Jawad Powers to Silver. Jawad lifted 190kg to claim men’s 59kg powerlifting silver for ParalympicsGB. It was a magnificent performance.
Ali Jawad was born without legs in war-torn Lebanon and nearly died. His family came to live in Tottenham, London where he grew up. He began expressing interest in sport at the age of 16. He was also diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.
There are those who say he has had his fair share of bad luck. At London 2012 he just missed out on a silver. It was all going so well for him until a controversial judging decision denied him a medal. He ended up fourth.
But Rio was waiting and Jawad got himself together and into the best shape ever for Paralympic glory. He was ecstatic he made it.
He succeeded in getting there and making it through to win silver adding even more medals to Team GB’s successes.
