Tom Daley Out of Diving Final.  Great Britain’s favourite to win gold suffered a shock elimination from the Olympic 10m platform diving competition after he finished last in the semi final.

In a display considered to be full of errors, the 2016 European Champion needed 102 points on his closing dive to help him reach the final.

Score:

However, he only managed 50.40 to close with 403.25, this was well short of the personal best of 571.85 he had set in Friday’s preliminary round.

China’s Chen Aisen finished top with 559.90, which was over 150 points ahead of Tom Daley.

While he still looks a young boy when he lined up for his first Olympic competition 8 years ago, now at 22, he towered a full head over his Chinese rivals.

The Briton had earlier claimed a bronze medal in the 10m synchronised event with partner Dan Goodfellow.  Since winning on that day Daley had spent a week’s rest and recuperation out of the athletes’ village and returned looking and feeling relaxed.

Great promise:

Ahead of the Rio Olympics, Britain’s director of Diving performance said he was “in the best shape and best form of his career”.

Tom Daley is popular with many and is admired for his open personality and showmanship. However, it is likely today’s performance, will have been more of a drama at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre
