Mars Mission is underway as blast off for the satellite ExoMars launched on time at 09:31 GMT from Baikonur in Kazakhstan.

Weather conditions  were cloudy but didn’t stop the rocket from having a successful lift-off.

This is a joint venture between European Space Agency and Russia. The probe will investigate whether the methane in the world’s atmosphere is coming from a geological source or is being produced by microbes.

Is there life on mars?

If everything goes well, the two space powers will follow-up with a rover, to be assembled in the UK, which will drill into the surface.

A very exciting space mission – take a look at the amazing blast off. video ESA
