Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit becomes a star of 50p coins in Britain
The Royal Mint is marking 150 years since the birth of Beatrix Potter by choosing Peter Rabbit to feature on a 50p coin.
The special coin is a celebration of the author who was famous for writing children’s stories. Among her animals were Peter Rabbit – who loved carrots and liked to steal, Squirrel Nutkin and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle.
Three more of Potter’s personalities will also be made into currency later this year – 2016.
The images have been created by coin designer Emma Noble who said it was “amazing to be given the opportunity to work with such famous and treasured literary characters”.
There was massive demand for the coins. Orders were coming in from around the globe. They were put on hold while supplies were being made
