August 2015: Rock singer Chrissie Hynde came under fire for suggesting it can be a woman’s fault if she is raped.

In an interview with the Sunday Times she said: “You know if you don’t want to entice a rapist, don’t wear high heels so you can’t run from him,”

This Slut Walk demonstration took part in Summer 2011 along with many other participating global cities

Up to 5 thousand people took part in a Slut Walk in central London to protest against sexual assault.  It follows a wave of worldwide demonstrations after a  Toronto Police Officer commented earlier this year that women shouldn’t dress like ‘sluts’ if they wanted to avoid  rape or assault.

As the scantily clad women marched through the West End to Piccadilly they chanted: “blame the rapist not the victim, doesn’t matter what I’m dressed in” which rang out above the roar of traffic.

“Our culture needs to change – teach people not to rape, not how not to be raped,” says 21-year-old student Rhiannon Frame.
