Campaigning for Democracy – Scotland

Assembly for Democracy

A series of assemblies where the community can discuss, share ideas, views and information have been coordinated by the Assemblies for Democracy.

The Assemblies are part of an urgently needed and unfolding conversation about how we can achieve real democracy throughout the UK. This spring, inaugural Assemblies in London, Manchester and Glasgow will not only map out the concerted attacks on social, ecological and human rights but also propose a variety of policy solutions and ideas to advance democratic society

Scotland organised a meeting so that those interested could take part in an opportunity to explore how individual voices can become a movement for change.

The event, held in Glasgow and just ahead of the General Election, attracted people from diverse campaigns and organisation.  Many were eager to express their views on transparency and internet surveillance as well as journalism following the revelations of phone hacking.

A crowd of about fifty gathered at the Education Centre in the city, where they spent the day creating an environment for real democracy and getting their voices heard. was also there.
