Torchbearers spread the word for the Games as they relay the Olympic flame around the country. Their journey sends a message  of enthusiasm for London 2012. It began in Cornwall on the 19th May and had the occasional surprise guest appearance.

The torch relay lasts 70 days, with 66 evening celebrations. About 8,000 people carried the torch a total distance of about 8,000 miles (12,800 km), starting from Lands End in Cornwall.  A wide range of people carried the torch around the country, mostly sports men and women, military figures and other local heroes from towns and cities across the nation. A number of celebrities also held the flame on its journey, including Dr Who star Matt Smith.

And true to their word the torch selectors had music artist Will.i.am on their list.  He was a surprise selection but as he explains in the video it has been his dream to take part in being able to carry the flame for the London 2012 Olympics.  royalty was also involved in the run

Will.i.am thrilled the crowds when he turned up in Taunton with the flame to fulfill a dream.  These highlights take you to the south west of England and Wales.  Video: LOCOG
