The UK celebrated a year to the Olympics and the London 2012 Games with a carnival atmosphere weekend around the country. In many cities and towns festival events were created.
Hundreds of thousands of people across the UK were expected to take part in sporting and cultural events for three days as part of a special open weekend setting the atmosphere for the Games.
Treasure hunts, carnivals and film screenings will be among the entertainment on offer. The nation would be one big party for a solid three days
Heritage sites nationwide will also fling open their doors from today and encourage communities to discover the hidden secrets of their local environments. “For our fourth year, Open Weekend is focussed on celebrating the “One Year to Go” countdown to the London 2012 Games. It will help communities across the country experience the best of British sporting, artistic and cultural talents up close,” London 2012 Chair Sebastian Coe said. “I’d encourage people to get involved at a local event as part of this nationwide celebration. It will be an amazing event.”
There was a spectacular Carnival show called, GAMES TIME created in the East Midlands and presented by the SO Festival. It had its premiere in the seaside town of Skegness.
