Royal airwaves in Essex

One of the most popular methods of reaching the population is through community radio.  It is highly regarded as an essential part of everyday living and ideal to keep locals informed.  So it is exciting when after a lot of hard work with volunteers contributing to the output they get to welcome a special guest.

A Royal visitor made the airwaves of  Community Radio Station Gateway 97.8.  They had their first Royal interview in May last year when the Duke of Gloucester visited the station in Basildon, Essex. He was there to see for himself the work of Gateway 97.8 and its contribution to students and volunteers.  The Duke got to see some of the hi-tech equipment that has been installed donated by local businesses.  He seemed impressed with how they broadcast team were able to produce programmes listened to by a large number of people in the area.  Basildon is one of the most successful community radio stations operating in the country.  Its connection with the young people who often act as volunteer  DJs has proved popular with listeners.

Recently, Ofcom said that Community Radio was thriving in the country enabling thousands of people to have a voice and to help serve the needs of their local area. got to film the event and speak to the Duke of Gloucester

It was a great visit
